What is wrong with taking care of our own needs?

NASA relying on Russia to carry astronauts to Space Station

So reads the innocent headline on MSNBC.com. Wow! I never thought I’d see the day when the former world superpower that is backwards in every way using decade’s old technology is in effect more advanced than our great country. How did we get here, you ask? We are fast becoming a country that can’t do anything for itself and relies on our enemy’s to take care of our needs. I thought my main topic today would be the Brazilian meat company topic and how we can’t even feed ourselves anymore.

"National Beef Packing Co., the nation's fourth-largest beef processor, said Tuesday it is being acquired by Brazilian giant JBS SA in a cash and stock deal worth $560 million. JBS also said it plans to buy Smithfield Food Inc.'s beef business to form the largest meat processor in the U.S." (From Money.CNN.Com).

Or how our "friends" in the Middle East OPEC cartel are relishing $105 barrel oil and denying our pathetic pleas for them to pump more oil because we can’t provide for ourselves our own energy needs. But the NASA story demonstrates how something seemingly innocent can display how we, the greatest super power in the world, can’t take care of ourselves anymore.

Our once proud nationalism drove us to win the race to the Moon and win the Cold War. Now as we retire our space shuttle fleet due to age and safety concerns we won’t have a replacement ready until at least 2015 assuming there are no delays. For 5 years we will be at the mercy of Russian and European space programs to get us to and from the International Space Station and they will set the price for our trips to a space station that we footed the mass majority of the bill for. This demonstrates the absurd position the elites that run this country have put us in regarding our ability to do things for ourselves that we once considered a matter of American prosperity and national security. Our increasingly tense relationship with Russia will end up costing the taxpayers that funded the space station even more.

We have outsourced and offshored almost everything we need at the expense of the working people of this country. We import oil that funds the terrorists that want to kill us from the Middle East and South America. Communist countries are drilling within sight of our land:

"While Washington dithers over exploiting oil and gas reserves off the coast of Florida, China has seized the opportunity to gobble up these deposits, which run throughout Latin America, the Caribbean and along the U.S. Gulf coast.
The Chinese have forged a deal with Cuban leader Fidel Castro to explore and tap into massive oil reserves almost within sight of Key West, Florida. At the same time, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who controls the largest oil reserves in the Western Hemisphere, is making deals to sell his country’s oil to China, oil that is currently coming to the United States.
Meanwhile, a new left-wing populist regime in Bolivia has nationalized the natural gas industry, threatening to cut off supplies to the United States." FromAmericanFreePress.net.

While we have some of the largest oil reserves right here in our country our liberal left wingers who are some the same people crying about high gas prices and blaming the Bush administration for them, won’t let us drill because we might disturb an elk or a bear. When will these people realize that China’s already drilling the Florida straits and Chavez is already drilling the Gulf of Mexico? Brazil finds oil and they hail the day they become player in the world market while we do not drill our own and sit at the merciless hands of dictators that would like to see us dead and that take great pride in bringing down the largest economy in the world.

Being reliant on other countries is not what made this country great. We are opening ourselves up to all kinds of attacks on our energy needs (now that they can sell all their oil to China, why sell it to the great Satan?), and our food supply (Anti Freeze in our toothpaste and dog food). While the inability to get ourselves into space is less ominous, it highlights the fact that we need to get back to what used to make us proud. American Independence.
